Full disclosure: I am not particularly troubled by outerwear. I like that. If you are trapped by a sudden downpour, you won't notice any difference. This is what I wear most of the time.

I do own a few more beautiful coats for those occasions where weather repellents won’t cut it, including Stand faux fur (more on that later). However, of all the things in my closet, they are me I feel the most appropriate and know the most. So, to clarify, I don't want a beautiful winter outfit on the market (not anyway).

However, I would like to say an eye-catching coat—a personalized coat, if you like—but I prefer to call it a performance coat, because the point of this cover-up is not that it is a knockout. A fashionable way, but in a wonderful, timeless way, year after year, that brings joy.

Shane Watson shared advice on how to accept this season’s exotic outerwear trend on any occasion. Picture: Kate Middleton

The real attraction is that it can do all the work, so you don't have to do this. The show jacket is the entrance to a restaurant or party, allowing you to keep it simple underneath. On those days when you are going on a business trip, when you relax in ordinary sweaters and pants, the performance jacket is something that everyone will see and remember.

When you run out and notice that you look monotonous and crumpled, put on your performance jacket and bingo game, and you look like you are going to have lunch with Liz Hurley.

If you can add charm and talent by sliding a warm layer on top, why not? Maybe most women already know this, or our current way of dressing—less laborious and elegant—makes exotic coats the focus. Either way, it's show jacket time.

The easiest way to effortlessly-my preferred route-is to bright colors, or better yet, color conflicts. Essentiel Antwerp is becoming a label of stunning colors, and its reversible red and pink wrap coat (£435, essentiel-antwerp.com) is a guaranteed head turn.

Zara's grass green double-breasted jacket (£129, zara.com) or double-breasted waist style (£129, zara.com) is not so impactful but enough to make you notice.

A printed coat is not difficult to wear, as long as you wear roughly the same color (mixing turbidity and brightness can cause problems), and a subtle abstract print is more versatile than a strong color.

Zara has a wool, two buttons, green and brown printed jacket. For the brand, the price is surprisingly high (£239), but it looks expensive and is a goalkeeper.

In its limited edition range, there is also a green-brown textured coat that almost has the appearance of mossy bark (£159). This doesn't sound appealing, but it does, especially if you like handmade labels like Toast.

The texture can be half the attractiveness of an exotic coat. This may be why LK Bennett is so popular with its forest green brushed wool version with a mink faux fur collar (£459, lkbennett.com).

Or, you can imitate Kate Middleton and wear your double-breasted midi coat-River Island has a pink (£110, riverisland.com)-with faux fur lapels (£75, troylondon. com).

This makes us cleverly think of artificial fur. The leopard-print faux fur I occasionally wear after dark is now aired regularly, and it has the same effect on my mood as wearing a pair of high heels before. In addition, it makes the old cream silk shirt and velvet pants look like something planned.

Hush made a great thigh skimmed faux leopard coat (£210, hush-uk.com). With this kind of printing, you can choose a shorter cut, but the wear on the medium and long models will be greater.

Otherwise, if you want to be wilder, Essentiel Antwerp has a green furry faux fur jacket (£370). It could be the cousin of the Adams family, Itt, or one of those coats you happen to wear.

At this point, it’s worth remembering that outerwear is not subject to age-appropriate rules, and whether we like it or not, these rules still affect fashion. Anyone of any age can wear any coat. In this respect, they are like handbags. enjoy.
